First date Top Ten

1. The smell
In the opinion of many there is nothing better than a man or a woman who smells irrestible. Try to find a perfume that is not too strong and not too sweet, but rather subtle and mysterious.

2. Sense of humour
Everybody enjoys it when their jokes receive a good laugh, but also having a good laugh themselves, so try to keep it balanced.

3. Listen
It is always good to feel that what you say comes across and that the listener is paying attention. When your date is talking look him or her in the eyes and listen to what he or she is saying, rather than politely wait until he or she is finished so you can talk again.

4. Look attractive
Of course it is by no means necessary to wear the most expensive designer clothes, but try to look as attractive as possible. Be sexy but don't overdo it. Ladies: it is good to look sexy but looking too sexy might come across as if you are easy to get. Men: most women like suits, but it is over the top to turn up in a tuxedo on your first date. Even a tie might sometimes be too much.

5. Glimlach
Keep the attention of your date focussed on you by making sure you are pleasant to look at. A smiling face works wonders for that.

6. Don't talk too loud
When talking to your date try not to talk too loud and speak with a friendly voice. After all: you are talking to your date not to the entire bar or restaurant. Talking to loud might embarres your date and that is the last thing you want to do.

7. Be flattering
Don't miss a chance to make a compliment yet don't overdo it. Be it clothes, bodily features or something he or she does: everybody likes to be appreciated but don't unease your date by making too many compliments as they quickly loose their value when they come in abundance.

8. Flirt
Flirting with your date tells him or her you are attracted to him or her and that is just how your date should feel. However don't flirt when you are not genuinly attracted to your date. It will never come across well and might create false hope. Never ever flirt with other people on your first - or any - date.

9. Intellect
It can be very attractive to have an intellectual conversation with your date. However don't bore your date with trivial or too complex subjects. Keep an eye on the news so that you know what he or she is talking about. On anything yo say or do it is important to 'read' your date. Try to pick up signals on how he or she is feeling about what is said. And oh yeah: don't talk too much!

10. Pay the bill
Always offer to pay the bill. This will leave the impression that you have enjoyed your date's company. When your date offers to pay then it's a nice thing to offer to go dutch.
