Make 2008 a great date year
From: The
Sun
07 Jan 2008 - THROUGHOUT 2007 reporter Laura Stott has been
on THE HUNT.
Armed
with ideas from readers and the Sun Woman team, our girl has
been looking for the man of her dreams.
Despite meeting loads of lovely fellas, as the year draws
to a close she is still single.
So its out with the old and in with the new as she
reveals her New Years resolutions.
WHEN youre single and looking for love, it is inevitable
you will make mistakes along the way. The main thing is to
learn from them.
This year has been a real eye-opener for me. I have had plenty
of new dating experiences and got to know some great guys
who I might not have noticed in the past.
And while I have yet to meet my perfect partner, with 2008
just around the corner Im more determined than ever.
Here are my New Years dating resolutions:
1) DONT WAIT FOR GUYS TO MAKE THE FIRST MOVE: I have
been to lots of singles events on my own and it made me realise
it is no good waiting for blokes to come up to you.
When I go to dating events with my single friends it is always
easier to approach a nice-looking guy.
But it is a much scarier prospect on your own.
So my first dating resolution for 2008 is to be brave and
go up and talk to fellas I like the look of even if
I am not at an actual dating event.
I will never find the man of my dreams if I am too scared
to speak to him. So 2008 will be all about making the first
move.
2) TRY SOMETHING NEW: Singles events are a great way to meet
men but theyre not the only way to hook up with
sexy singles.
This year I have met some great guys just by getting involved
with different activities that I hadnt tried before.
I hate being the centre of attention but I landed myself
a date when I went to a salsa dancing class.
And despite not knowing anything about footie, I had a great
time watching an England match. I even did a cookery course.
Next year I will make even more of an effort to do things
outside my comfort zone.
3) DONT JUDGE MEN ON FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Going to singles
events such as speed dating nights made me realise that sometimes
I am too quick to make my mind up about a bloke often
in the first five minutes.
I am usually pretty nervous when I go along to events like
that and I would not want people to judge me straight away
without giving me a proper chance. So it doesnt seem
very fair if I do it to them.
Recently my friends set me up on a blind date with a great
guy who I never would have got chatting to otherwise. We had
a fantastic time.
This year I am going to make a real effort to give all the
blokes I meet a proper chance even if they dont
make a great first impression.
4) THINK ABOUT BODY LANGUAGE: After my session with a flirt
coach earlier this year I realised my body language
was often quite off-putting to fellas.
I tend to sit with my arms and legs folded, which is not
very friendly when you are trying to meet new people.
Next year I will be making sure I do not scare off any great
guys.
5) DONT WORRY ABOUT BEING SINGLE: Of course I want
to meet the man of my dreams but all the blokes I know
agree that there is nothing less attractive than a desperate
woman.
We all know that great things happen when you least expect
them, so in 2008 I am also going to make the most of being
young, free and single.
The best thing about that is you never know who you are going
to meet next.
This years tally: Some fab dates but no true love in
2007. Fingers crossed for 2008.
2008 potential for love: I am thinking positively and cannot
wait to see what and who the New Year brings.
